- November 22, 1968 (9:00 PM): Fleury-d’Aude (France). A dozen witnesses saw a lens-shaped object surrounded with a blue glow, making a noise similar to that of a jet and emitting flashes, which landed in a field briefly. It suddenly took off and was lost to sight at the horizon.

- April 24, 1964: Socorro (New Mexico). [The Lonnie Zamora incident] Policeman Lonnie Zamora reports seeing two small beings, dressed in white, close to a shiny egg-shaped object, which rested on four pads before it took off with a thunderous noise—only to become perfectly silent as it flew away.

- August 21, 1955 (Evening): Kelly-Hopkinsville (Kentucky). [The Kelly-Hopkinsville encounter] Five adults and seven children arrived at the Hopkinsville police station claiming that small alien creatures from a spaceship were attacking their farmhouse, and that they had been holding them off with gunfire “for nearly four hours”. Two of the adults claimed they had been shooting at a few short, dark figures who repeatedly popped up at the doorway or peered into the windows.

- January 29, 1952 (Midnight): Wonsan and Sunchon (Korea). Two sightings of globular or disk-shaped objects are corroborated by two crew members each of two separate planes over Wonsan and Sunchon, Korea

- February 19, 1951: Mount Kilimanjaro (Tanzania, Africa). Two pilots and nine passengers of the regular plane from Nairobi to Mombasi, Africa watch a large cigar-shaped vessel hover above Mount Kilimanjaro for 17 minutes

- March 10, 1950: Orangeburg (South Carolina). Six people see a moon-sized disk hover over the city of Orangeburg, South Carolina for 15 minutes

- July 9, 1949: Alexandria (Virginia). Sightings of saucer-shaped objects are reported in Alexandria, Virginia

- February 21, 1948 (2:00AM): West Palm Beach (Florida). A newspaper editor and his son see a ray or blob of light sweeping in from the southeast over West Palm Beach, Florida at 2:00 AM

- June 24, 1947: Mineral, near Mount Rainier (Washington). [The Kenneth Arnold UFO Sightings] Private pilot Kenneth Arnold claimed that he saw a string of nine, shiny unidentified flying objects flying past Mount Rainier at speeds that Arnold estimated at a minimum of 1,200 miles an hour (1,932 km/hr). Arnold’s description of the objects also led to the press quickly coining the terms flying saucer and flying disc as popular descriptive terms for UFOs.
1868
- July, 1868: Copiago (Chile). A strange “aerial construction” bearing lights and making engine noises flew low over this town. Local people also described it as a giant bird covered with large scales producing a metallic noise. Although not an actual landing, this is the first instance of close observation of an unknown object at low altitude in the nineteenth century.
