Charles Francis Coe, editor of the Palm Beach Times, and his son, saw a ray or blob of light sweeping in from the southeast over West Palm Beach, Florida, at 2:00 AM. It curved over the Atlantic and headed northeast in a wide arc as though following the curve of the earth.
